Cooking Tonight?

This is a third article in our buy local program series.

We have talked about several businesses in Forks Township, as we encourage our citizens to buy local!

I would like to focus on a web based business. The purpose of this local business is to provide an online restaurant guide for the Lehigh Valley Region started by a Forks Township resident. This is so cool!

According to Michelle Farrell , the Not Cooking Tonight web site has “nearly 8100 restaurants listed and it covers an area of at least 50 miles in all directions of the 18040 area code (East to Jersey, North to the Pocono's, South to Philly and West to Reading). All restaurants have a basic listing for free”.

Farrell said users can search by cuisine, city, Zip Code (and distance from zip code), restaurant name, whether they offer a coupon, meal type (breakfast, dessert, kids menu, etc.), and more . Consumers can also post reviews of the restaurants they've visited.

So, when you are looking for a new restaurant or a cool place to take the kids, visit http://www.notcookingtonight.com/ for great ideas. Additionally, you can even save some money with web based coupons.

Vintner’s Circle – A new wine store in Forks!

Tonight, I had a chance to visit a new wine store in Forks. No, it is not owned by the State of PA. The new wine making store is owed Jim Alercia and Patty Lantz.

The Vintner’s Circle is a place where your dreams of making wine can come true. You will use professional wine making equipment, and be guided through each session by Vintner’ Circle expert staff trained in wine making.

You can make any variety of wine your heart desires and even design your own labels! For $279 you can make and bottle 28 to 30 bottles of wine. Just $140 will get you 15 bottles of wine. The hours of the store as are as follows:

1. Saturday from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm
2. Sunday from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm
3. Tuesday & Wednesday from 11:00 am until 6:00 pm
4. Thursday & Friday from 11:00 am until 6:00 pm
5. 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm by appointment

I had a chance to sample some red wine. I have to say it was quite good.

When you are in the mood to make some wine, just give Jim and Patty a call at 610-438-8660 or stop by the store. The store is located at 1700 Sullivan Trail, #11. You can visit http://www.vintnerscircle.com/ to get additional information on wine making.

It is good have this unique store in our community. Good Luck!

Welcome to a new Forks business - Bushkill Bait!

If you are a avid fisherman, you already know the 2008 trout season opened in the Lehigh Valley on Saturday March 29,2008. The first lines were dropped into the Bushkill Creek at 8:00 AM.

The first trout was caught within a minute or two. I am thinking this could be the first trout pulled from the Bushkill Creek of the 2008 trout season, but I am not really sure.

Brian and I had good time fishing together, even as my teeth chattered in the cold morning air. We decided to leave the fish in the creek (ha ha), but we had a good time.

Oh yes, this is a blog about a new business in Forks Township. You may have guessed the new business has something to do with fishing. It seems we have bait and tackle shop located at 1907 Bushkill Drive. The Bushkill Bait shop stocks basic fishing supplies and live bait. The shop is opened from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. I am hoping the shop is successful! Good Luck!

Forks Post Office Update

I thought we would provide a quick update on the Forks Post Office located in the Ace Hardware.

We have a full service Post Office that does everything from international mailing to overnight mail. The Post Office is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 7:00 PM. Saturday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM and the Post Office Sunday hours are from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

The mail pick-up is at 4:30 PM for Monday to Friday and 12:30 PM on Saturday.

How many Post Offices in the valley have these hours and great service from the staff at Cantelmi’s Ace Hardware? I am thinking none!

Stop by and say hello to Post Office manager Dena Zona! It does feel good to have our own Post Office!

Grand Opening of Forks Post Office

I attended the grand opening of the Forks Post Office. David Howell, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, participated in the ribbon cutting as well as Mike Anderson, General Manager of ACE Hardware, Rick Cantelmi, and USPS officials.

I talked to Mike Anderson about the new Post Office operations. Mike told us the new Post Office staff attended a one week training session to learn the USPS procedures. The Post Office will be open Monday to Saturday with the mail pick-up at 4:30 PM each day. Mike is hoping to have a second mail pick-up after business picks-up.

We were hoping for a photo of the grand opening, but the Everything Forks photographer forgot the camera.

It is good to have a new Forks Post Office!

New Forks Post Office

Welcome to the new Forks Post office. The Post Office is located in the Cantelmi's Ace Hardware store. The Post Office actually has been in operation since Mid December 2007, but the official opening ceremony is schedule for February 2, 2008 at 10:00 AM. It would be very cool, if allot people attend the community open house.

The Post Office is located in the middle of the hardware store and I am sure the Post Office is a welcome sight for many people.

Now, we just need that library.
