2009 Forks Supervisor Campaign Starts! Part 2

The fall campaign is about to start.  Here are some of the issues that I'll be discussing (Part 2):

  1. Create a robust and active Business Relations organization -- This is critical to figuring out why so many retail businesses in this township fail. It is disturbing that Forks Township does not collect data on business failures in order to determine the root cause and help to prevent it in the first place.  Retail businesses need our help.  It is time to act!
  2. Proactive Community Planning -- We need to proactively identify businesses we want in Forks Township and take steps to attract them!  It is important the new Forks Business Association succeed and help the township create a viable economic development plan.  It is time to act!

Get Involved! Every Vote Counts!

I see you continuously mention about open government, and open records, and I would appreciate it if you could better clarify your position on this. It seems that you may have encountered resistance with this in the past, and would appreciate it if such specifics could be provided.

While I agree with the concept of open government, I do not agree that EVERY document, conversation transcript, or meeting should be open to the public. That is part of the reason why we elect public officials. We elect them to run the day to day operations of whatever entity they are elected to run. In the case we are discussing, the township of Forks.

I am also a little confused how you can be a proponent for leaner and more fiscally resonsible governement, yet also be a proponent of maintaining records on failed local businesses, and apparently someone to take the time to investigate and determine reasons for said failures. Also, your position on opening up records availability and copying for absurd low costs per page. This all costs money, and also time for a township employee to handle, which could open up the possibility of both overtime to handle additional work being created by such "openness" and availability, not to mention that due to such a low cost per page, that not only would 5 cents per page not cover the cost for the township, but some might use the extreme low cost to abuse the availability.

As you have been very diligent with your running for Township Supervisor, I would appreciate it if you could provide additional clarification on these items. While I applaud your willingness to campaign for such an important, yet thankless position, I am not certain whether I feel your viewpoints are the best for the future of the township, and look forward to your response to my inquiry for clarification.
